Belvoir Sketty

Choose to base yourself in Sketty and you choose a neighbourhood that really does have it all – convenience, character and cool coastal views.

Perched on a hill on the fringes of the city centre, it’s perfectly positioned between the residential areas of Uplands and Brynmill, Tycoch and Killay. Only a couple of miles from the city centre, such is the web of roads that centre on Sketty, it’s easy to reach pretty much everywhere and in any direction.

A 10 to 15 minute-drive will take you to the beaches of south and north Gower, as well as the popular village and tourist destination of Mumbles. For out-of-town shopping, the retail parks of Cwmdu and Fforest Fach can be reached in under 10 minutes, with the M4 not much further beyond where you have the option of venturing west to Pembrokeshire or east to Cardiff.

As to what’s easily walkable, take a stroll around Singleton Park complete with rolling hills, copses and botanical garden known for its weekend plant sales. Follow the slope down the hill and you’ll soon be upon the dramatic sweep of Swansea Bay, passing Swansea University’s Singleton campus as well as the hospital.

Although Sketty is technically an urban enclave, it has a decidedly ‘villagey’ feel. It certainly has everything a good village should. It has its own pub, the Viv’s as it’s affectionately known, a church and church hall, post office, supermarkets, petrol station, vet, take-aways as well as hipster cool coffee houses.

There are rows of independent shops and cafes ranging from dog groomers, school uniform suppliers and zero-waste shops to vintage emporiums, interior designers and DIY stores.

As to the styles of properties, they are rather varied with plenty of options suiting those just starting and retirees up to anyone and everyone in between.

Cute and cosy two up two down terraces are plentiful as are large spacious Edwardian villas and town houses. Lovers of the stalwart suburban 1930s semi are sure to find one in a quiet, friendly cul de sac. Then there are the estates of executive modern houses with signature double driveways and garages, perfect if security and storage are high up on your wish list.
