More landlords in Dunstable and Houghton Regis looking to invest in buy to let

In recent years with reduced lending, the need for high deposits and a general shift in the attitude towards renting, the average first time buyer age is now 38. In the UK home ownership has long since been an aspiration for the masses, but those would be first time buyers in Dunstable are now turning to the residential lettings market for their housing needs making demand for rental property higher than ever before. Local letting Specialist Belvoir Dunstable can reveal that in a recent survey of Landlords, 58.4 per cent are considering buying additional properties to let in the future

One of the Directors of Belvoir Dunstable, Daniel Bourke explains: “Belvoir have over 150 branches throughout the UK and over the last 36 months and there has been an obvious increase in accidental landlords – ie those that have ended up letting through circumstance rather than choice. This may be as a result of being unable to sell, inheriting a property or moving abroad, but many of those accidental landlords are considering growing their portfolio in the future and this is also true of the Landlords in our local areas of Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard“

Daniel continues: “An increase in stock in our area would offer tenants more choice which is great news as demand for good rental property is continuing to rise. Reports on the local sales market, whilst showing some signs of improvement, is still slow therefore offering plenty of investment opportunities. So it’s a great time for landlords looking to grow their portfolio or indeed investors who are currently unhappy with the returns they are getting from alternative investments.”
