The proportion of private landlords in arrears is substantially under half the proportion of owner occupiers in the same position according to a survey of clients by a financial services firm.
Just one in every 166 buy to let landlords with a mortgage is in arrears of at least one month, accounting for a tiny 0.6 per cent of the sector; by contrast, one in every 73 owner occupiers with a mortgage is in arrears to a similar extent, repressing 1. 37 per cent.
The figures are based on mortgages administered by Computershare, and apply to England, Scotland and Wales.
There are substantial regional variations.

In Wales, for example, 1.41 per cent of buy to let landlords are in arrears, close to the owner occupier figure of 1.81 per cent. However, in the East Midlands a mere 0.15 per cent of landlords are in arrears while 1.23 per cent owner occupiers are.
In Greater London – where mortgage loans are typically much higher than elsewhere – 0.94 per cent of landlords and 1.96 per cent of owner occupiers are in arrears.
Computershare currently accounts for over £71 billion of mortgages and loans, representing over half the UK’s outsourced mortgages.
