Visiting Tunbridge Wells for House Hunting

Places to stay:

Tunbridge Wells is a beautiful place to spend time at Christmas, whether you live here, arrive for a days shopping or are visiting over the festive period. We are privileged to have 4 of the finest hotels within the town which are convenient for all Tunbridge Wells has to offer. Each is beautifully decorated, comfortable and offers fine dining, with their own unique twist.

The Royal Wells Hotel is located at the top of the town on Mount Ephraim and is convenient for walking to mainstream shops in Royal Victoria Place (RVP) or down to the boutique shops and restaurants on the High Street. The large conservatory is a stunning feature from the front and the interior does not disappoint either. Bedrooms are in muted tones but freshly decorated with a modern and comfortable feel. The hotel was a favoured place to stay of Queen Victoria hence this hotel adopting a ‘Royal’ prefix to the name. If it was good enough for Vic then it’s good enough for us! Christmas day lunch is available.

One Warwick Park is situated beside the historic Pantiles and Charles the Martyr church. It offers a contemporary urban interior with a high-end finish. The hotel is now linked to Coco Blush who provide beauty treatments if required, though Beaute is close and an excellent alternative.

Hotel Du Vin is located in one of the most significant historic buildings in Tunbridge Wells. The handsome house was built in 1820 and has been a hotel since 1840. The location is perfect for a Christmas Ice Skating trip as the rink is set up each year in stately Calverley Grounds, a sweeping park adjoining the Decimus Burton villas behind Hotel Du Vin. Beside the park is Hooper’s department store where all your Christmas shopping can be done under one roof in luxurious style.  The interior of Hotel Du Vin is reminiscent of a cosy gentleman’s club with leather armchairs, deep rich tones and low-level lighting. The bar, is particularly suited to a festive drink on a cold Winter’s night but there are several rooms that can be booked for private dining, all with a different history and feel. J

The Spa Hotel  has a super location on Mount Ephraim, ideal for walking across the Common to the High Street or the Christmas market on The Pantiles. The Spa Hotel stands out from the competition by having an in-house gym, pool and beauty spa.

A Premier Inn has been built in the town which has added a more affordable option for a stay in Tunbridge Wells. The architects are to be applauded for building a hotel in a style that is so much in keeping with the beautiful historic properties on London Road that it blends. Parking is limited but available at the front, at least while checking in, and there is a multi-storey at the end of Vale Road to the side.

Alternative accommodation can be found at The Mount Edgcumbe, a gastro-pub located on the Common itself, with wonderfully quirky boutique rooms, each with a different theme. Or you will find AirBnB offers stays in apartments, family homes or in a separate annex on offer, many of which are very convenient for the town centre.
