Selective Licensing Consultation 

Private Rented Sector Stoke-on-Trent
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is proposing to introduce Selective Licensing across the city to improve the quality of housing and to address area decline resulting from high levels of anti-social behaviour, crime & low demand. This means anyone who wishes to rent out a private rented property in the affected areas will need to have a LICENCE to do so.This is now open to CONSULTATION & I would very much like to hear your views as landlords whether this is something you would support.

If Selective Licensing goes ahead, the Council will:
1. Check if the landlord is a “fit and proper person” to be a landlord
2. Make other requirements regarding property conditions & tenancy management

Fees are £523 for a 5 year licence (£473 for a second property). The fee is high and will impact all our landlords adversely. To recoup that fee, rents would need to rise about £9 per month per property.

If you would like to discuss details of the scheme and how the proposals may affect you, you are invited to attend a meeting on 14 March, 4-7pm at Windsor Room, Stoke on Trent City Council, Glebe Street, Stoke, ST4 1HH.
