I often turn the question around and ask why are you investing?
Is it for long term capital gain? A future home for children ? Retirement income? Alternative to pension fund or maybe just as a ‘place’ to invest spare funds rather than in the bank. In short it takes a bit of thinking through as the answers are often varied. So my genuine advice is don’t rush it.
