Congratulations Thirsk RUFC

Congratulations to the Thirsk RUFC men’s senior team who have made it to a double final after a hard fought season.

Anthony Garbutt, Managing Director of Belvoir Thirsk, Selby and Goole has more reasons to celebrate than most. As well as being a team sponsor, Anthony turns out for the team in the second row position.

“This year has gone better than anyone could have expected. Last season was frustrating on a personal level, I suffered a serious knee injury in the first game of pre season and that ruined most of the year for me. It was difficult being out of the squad and watching from the sidelines. The team have really pulled together this year, we lost a lot of games early on but we had a turning point just before Christmas and we’re on an 8 game winning streak at the moment.”

Two more games could see Thirsk lift their first ever piece of silver wear explains Anthony.

“Thirsk has never reached a final of any kind so to reach two in one season is incredible but it would mean so much to go that step further and pick up a trophy or two. We’ve got the toughest opponents in the next couple of games but I know the boys will be up for it. I’m proud to have our sponsorship on the shirt but even more proud to pull the gold, green and black jersey on my back.”

The final of the Yorkshire 4 Shield will take place on Saturday 5th May with a 3pm kick off at Thirsks temporary home of Thirsk High School.
The Yorkshire Trophy opponants and match location are yet to be decided.

Come along and cheer your team on.
