Renting Home (Wales) Act Implementation is Postponed

The implementation of the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016, has been postponed until 1st December 2022, originally scheduled to come into effect on 15th July 2022.

The announcement by the Welsh Government will allow landlords additional time to ensure their properties are reaching the required standards under Fitness for Human Habitation, as well as provide additional time to convert to the new Occupation Contracts.

The Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 will replace the Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) Agreement Standard Occupation Contract (SOC), which includes a written statement of the key facts of the tenancy. It will now become a legal requirement for all landlords to provide a written SOC within 14 days of the tenancy commencement. This can be issued in hard copy, or if the contract-holder agrees, electronically.

You can find out more about the changes that will be introduced once the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 is introduced this December here.
