Hinckley is currently the second largest town in Leicestershire, and is a great central location for Leicester, Nuneaton, Coventry and Birmingham. Hinckley is a thriving and busy town, large enough to enjoy comprehensive facilities, yet small enough to foster a good community spirit.
Hinckley was traditionally a centre for the hosiery industry, but the main claim to fame is that the Hansom Cab was invented here and is also the home to Triumph Motorbikes, the last British motorbike manufacturer. The town's central location and good links to the UK motorway network have made it a popular location for distribution warehouses.
Hinckley is twinned with Le Grand Quevilly, France and Herford, Germany.
Hinckley has a thriving shopping centre. The major shopping area is compact and convenient, and is centred around Castle Street. Britannia Centre has more than 12 stores and stalls. Hansom Court also has a number of stores. There is plenty of town centre parking with easy access to the shopping centres.
Eating and Drinking
Hinckley has an enticing range of pubs, some of which serve food.
There is also a good selection of restaurants in and close to the town, with Indian, Chinese and British being the predominant food types, and a fair few takeaways, too.
Concordia Theatre – an independently run amateur theatre which hosts, pantomimes, plays, opera, musicals, dance and professional and corporate events. With secure free parking for all evening performances, the 400 seat auditorium allows for excellent viewing, and has a fantastic timetable of events throughout the year.
Hinckley Leisure Centre – offering a wide range of activities and facilities for people of all ages and abilities. It has a 25 metre main pool, badminton courts, sports hall and squash courts.
Hollycroft Park – donated to the people of Hinckley in 1934 by the notable local Atkins family, the park has two tennis courts, a bowling green, golf course, band stand and gardens. The park is the base for some of the town’s biggest events, including Proms in the Park and Worldfest music events.
By road: The A5 and M69 link Hinckley to Coventry, and the M1 and M6 motorways provide a link with towns and cities throughout the country.
By rail: Hinckley railway station has regular services to Birmingham and Leicester. Journeys to London can be made via Nuneaton or Leicester and take approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.
By air: The nearest airports are Coventry and East Midlands, both within half an hours’ drive.
