Celebrate the summer holidays with the best things to do in Corby

The summer holidays are here – and no doubt you want to make the most of the time spent with your family.

Holidays abroad are fantastic, but staycations are just as popular these days and it is important not to overlook what is right in front of you for cheaper, more accessible options.

There is so much to enjoy on our doorstep in Corby and a little further afield, which is why it is one of the best places to live.

East Carlton Country Park

Perfect for walking the dog and letting the children run around and let off some steam, East Carlton Country Park is a hidden gem just outside Corby. With a cute café and shop, a fascinating story trail which leads right around the park, free parking and a children’s play area, it’s the ideal place to spend a warm summer’s afternoon.

Savoy Cinema

Right in the centre of our lovely town is the Savoy Cinema, a cute and quirky place to watch the latest blockbuster films. For a treat that doesn’t break the bank, why not take the children to Kid’s Club, which is held every morning in the summer holidays and costs just £2.15 each to see a popular children’s film.

Corby International Swimming Pool

What child doesn’t love splashing around in the water? With a fun little pirate-themed pool for the very little ones, and larger pools for the more experienced swimmers, the International Swimming Pool is the ideal place for kids to gain more confidence swimming. You can even sign your little ones up for swimming lessons, fun for them while also learning an important skill for life.

Corby Boating Lake

Or for a different water-based experience, why not take the family for a trip to Corby Boating Lake? Young animal enthusiasts will love spotting a wide variety of animals and birds which call the lake home, while little eco-warriors will enjoy learning more about the project and how it has improved fishing stocks. There is also a children’s play area to enjoy, and a little café to pick up a well-deserved ice cream from.

Kirby Hall

Older children may enjoy wandering around the Elizabethan rooms of Kirby Hall, soaking up the elegant atmosphere of years gone by. It’s a stately home with an impressive heritage, with some rooms lovingly restored to give an insight into how people lived generations ago. Why not play ‘Spot the peacock’, as several are wandering around the lovely gardens. You can also choose an audio guide when exploring to get a real sense of the place.

Willow Place

So, taking children shopping can sometimes be tricky. But if you have to take the kids along, perhaps to pick up school uniform for next term or to find decorations for a new bedroom, we genuinely believe that there are not many better shopping centres for families than Willow Place. With handy parking, wide, spacious boulevards and a fantastic selection of shops, Willow Place offers a sense of calm that you just don’t get from other cramped and noisy malls.

It may be that no matter how many day trips you take with the children, spending the summer holidays together has made you realise that there is just not enough space in your house.
