Survey unveils the list of England's happiest places for tenants

A happy tenant is the dream for any letting agent. Much easier to work with, more likely to pay their rent on time and mostly keeping the property in top condition. Happy residents mean happy agents, but where in England are the most content tenants found?

According to a new survey carried out by the National Landlords Association (NLA), the East Midlands is the area that trumps all others, with as many as 83 per cent of the regions tenants reporting that they are happy with their landlords and letting agents.

Tenants in the north-west and south-west of England were the other happiest groups making up the top three, with 82 per cent feeling satisfied with their situation in each region.

Overall, even though some areas saw fewer happy tenants than others – the north-east reported just 67 per cent of tenants being happy with their landlords – it was a strong outlook for the PRS altogether. Some 79 per cent of English tenants are satisfied that their landlords and letting agents are doing everything they can to make them happy.

The NLA said it’s clear that since the rental market became a much more prominent part of the property market, landlords and agents have gone a long way to improve the overall experience for users, and to banish the misled beliefs about rental homes.

“Good landlords make up the majority of the market so it’s not surprising that the majority of tenants are satisfied,’ said Richard Lambert, NLA chief executive officer.

“Private renting is far from the insecure, uncertain and unhappy picture that it is often made out to be, and these findings will help to reassure existing renters and those looking to make their home in the private sector. However, it doesn’t help the minority of tenants who are dissatisfied,” he added.
