Sheffield Student Accommodation on the Rise!

Development plans for a large collection of student flats located near to Ecclesall Road have been recently submitted. The development is intended to house around 450 students, while also containing 237 private rental apartments, as well as restaurants, shops and cafes. It is currently proposed that it will be erected on Summerfield Street, where a large piece of vacant land is present.

The scheme, that is spearheaded by applicant Adobe Hallam, has put forward plans for structures up to 10 storeys high. This is revised from the initial designs that proposed structures as tall as 17 storeys.

The development would also see a cycle route and walkway beside the Porter Brook waterfront being created.

A spokesperson for agent Marrons Planning made a statement saying: The intention is to revitalise an under-used asset, the Porter Brook waterfront, and to redevelop a redundant brownfield site.

“It is hoped this development will follow in the footsteps of other urban regeneration schemes in Sheffield – notably Ward’s Brewery on Ecclesall Road – to provide a catalyst for future development in the vicinity.

“The introduction of student residences and private rental apartments will enliven what is currently an under-inhabited area of the city, but which affords easy access to the city’s two universities and the city centre. The diversity and quality of the accommodation will appeal to many students, post graduates, young professionals and couples.”

Our Property Expert at Belvoir Sheffield James Morriss commented on the development, saying ‘’ This large addition of student accommodation will help address the thriving student economy in Sheffield. Student accommodation is currently in high demand in Sheffield due to the merits of both Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield University. With the addition of this development it will open up the property market to allow more students to experience high level of living that Sheffield has to offer.
