As much as we all love getting wrapped up warm and sitting by a cosy fire, winter feels like it has been never ending. It’s fair to say we are hankering for those brighter and warmer days and there is plenty that can be done whilst waiting for the weather to brighten up. The house is a very good place to start, a few simple measures are all it takes and it doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg either.
Get ahead with the spring cleaning;
The dreaded yearly spring clean, not the most exciting of prospects but something that has to be done. When it comes to spring cleaning a little effort goes a long way, like they say if you are going to do a job it’s best done properly. You can’t beat fresh air flowing through the house, open up the windows and let your house breath and taste that fresh scent of spring. De-clutter! Worktops, bookshelves and windowsills, put away or even get rid of those items that are taking up all of the space. Organise and arrange, everything has a place so make sure it is perfect and looks right. Once you have tackled this, get busy cleaning and then you can enjoy your beautiful home.
Refresh your rooms;
A little spring interior refresh doesn’t need to be expensive. Toss a few pillows on the bed or your sofa and instantly change your room’s mood. Consider finding an accent rug, they are on trend, won’t break the bank and can easily be switched each season. The preparation for spring is definitely the right time to inject some colour, pastels and sweet florals will add a soft touch and give your space that happy spring feel. Whether inside your home or out, think about using your dining or porch table as a work of art. Mix and match place settings, use linens and don’t be afraid to combine patterns and colours as long as they are in similar hues. A new set of bedding can change the appearance of a room in a flash, opt for colour and bold prints for maximum wow effect. Re-arrange your furniture- it’s simple, effective and free! All of these small details will give you that constant reminder of spring or summer and make your home feel fabulous!
Just add flowers;
There is nothing more welcoming than a fresh vase of flowers as you enter the house. Everything comes alive in the spring so be sure to treat yourself at the weekly grocery shop or why not pick some field flowers and arrange in a jar- we are all about embracing that seasonal beauty. A bunch of daffodils can cost as little as £1 but look and smell fantastic! Be a little creative and use unusual vases to place your flowers in- old pots, jars and crockery are a few starting points.
Think about scents;
Scents are one of the things are that are most overlooked, but have such a significant impact. Tuck away those heavier, woodsier, candles and oil diffusers and replace with those lighter varieties. When planning for spring you naturally think light, and lovely. Think magnolia, vanilla, freshly cut grass, cotton bedding and lavender- but you do you!
