LOCAL PARALYMPIC HERO JOINS IN WITH BELVOIR LINCOLN’S CELEBRATIONS

Away from running their busy Lincoln property lettings business, Paul and Sharon Collins share another passion – equestrianism.

So when local Paralympic Gold medalist, Sophie Wells MBE, accepted the couple’s invitation to join in with their 20th anniversary celebrations, they were thrilled to welcome her as a guest of honour, along with the Deputy Mayor of the City of Lincoln, Councillor Chris Burke.

“Sharon and I have been involved with horses for many years, initially just having a couple of horses to ride,” says Paul.

“But then we started going along to Eventing, which really demonstrates the bond and trust that exists between horse and rider across each of the disciplines – dressage, show jumping and cross country.

“To create and build upon this successful partnership at all levels of the sport takes dedication and lots of hard work –just as it does when building a business.

“In this country there is now a much greater awareness of and engagement in the Paralympics and we are all in awe of achievements reached by those with disabilities.

“So we are really honoured that Sophie Wells, herself a very successful Gold medalist equestrian Paralympian is able to join us on our special day and to accept a donation from us to help with her Riding for the Disabled Group.

“We at Belvoir believe her initiative is a great way to help disabled children and adults.

“Horses and ponies do not judge and often instinctively understand the needs of their disabled friends – helping them to achieve confidence and happiness as well as helping improve their motor functions and responses.

“We only need to look at Sophie’s dedication and hard work –and tremendous success both in London and Rio – to see what is achievable.”
